Jilin Oilfield fills the gap in profile control technology for high-temperature water flooding reservoirs.

On May 5th, it was learned from Jilin Oilfield that the high-temperature resistant and high-strength water-absorbing swelling particle plugging agent developed by the Oil and Gas Technology Research Institute of the oilfield completed its first pilot test in the Yitong 45-2-6 well group. The test block showed a favorable development trend with a decline in liquid production, an increase in oil production, and a reduction in water cut. The water channeling control effect was remarkable.
At the beginning of this year, the high-temperature resistant and high-strength water-absorbing swelling particle plugging agent entered the field test stage. Laboratory data indicated that the plugging agent could stably maintain its performance for 14 months at a temperature of 95 degrees Celsius, with excellent rebound and anti-aging properties. Its plugging capacity was 15 times higher than that of conventional products, and the water absorption and swelling ratio was stable and controllable. It also had good suspension properties in complex liquid mixtures, providing a new technical support for the stable oil production and water control as well as efficient development of old oilfields. Currently, the product has completed pilot production. After its application in the Yitong 45-2-6 well group, the injection pressure of the well group steadily increased, and the effective period of the measure reached 16 months, with a production-to-investment ratio of 2.1, which was better than the expected effect.
For a long time, the high-temperature oil reservoirs in Jilin Oilfield have frequently encountered problems such as the softening and degradation of conventional particle plugging agents and the decline in performance due to the high formation temperature and complex water quality, significantly reducing the plugging effect. In response to this technical challenge, the Oil and Gas Technology Research Institute of Jilin Oilfield, based on the actual production needs, began to focus on developing a solution in 2022. They innovatively introduced water-proofing materials from the construction industry and, through physical and chemical modification and optimization, targeted and resolved the key technical issues of the plugging agent's high-temperature resistance, shape change ability, and water absorption and swelling. They successfully developed a new type of high-strength water-absorbing swelling particle plugging agent, filling the gap in the profile control technology for high-temperature water flooding oil reservoirs in Jilin Oilfield.
